Evin Prison Burns During Protests

A fire Saturday ravaged an Iranian detention complex infamous for harboring political detainees. 

Including demonstrators from the countrywide revolt. 

Evin Prison has been a symbol of Iran's political persecution since it opened under the monarchy. 

Untold numbers of demonstrators have been detained there since the Sept. 16 death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman in police custody for allegedly not following Islamic dress code. 

State television reported that a sewing workshop was set on fire by jailed demonstrators & Evin Prison guards. 

Gunshots and explosions may be heard in videos of Evin Prison in northern Tehran. 

State media said that Iranian authorities controlled the fire & captives by Saturday evening.
