New evidence indicates that exercise affects fat at a molecular level, improving its health.
The discoveries have consequences for our metabolisms, muscles, & how our bodies handle holiday excess.
Many people don't know that body fat can be physiologically beneficial, regardless of weight or shape.
Jeffrey Horowitz, a University of Michigan professor who researches exercise & metabolism, says "healthy fat is not about amount."
He stated it's about fat's function. "A person with healthy fat is better off than one with unhealthy fat with the same body fat percentage."
Horowitz said fat cell size distinguishes healthy from unhealthy fat. More tiny fat cells, he noted.
You don't need to shed weight or fat to make your body fat healthier. He claimed large fat cells are full. They can't hold much more and leak fatty acids into the bloodstream.
