Many people read to escape their own realities or immerse themselves in relatable stories. What to read? It's hard to choose a book when there are so many good (and bad) ones. Whether you want to read a novel on your beach vacation, a memoir on your tablet in bed, or an audiobook while washing dishes, astrology can help you find your next read. Astrologers recommend books for each zodiac sign.
Independent thinkers with big personalities, Aries enjoy reading about relatable characters. "They're drawn to stories about determined, strong, and persistent people because they're leaders and fighters," says Best of Psychic Reader founder Emily Newman. "They like stories where the hero overcomes a challenge." Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, about Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy in Regency England, is perfect for Aries. Because it's classic.
Taurus is a steady and sensible sign, but they love beauty. Newman suggests they read It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey, which does so. This lighthearted romance brings a materialistic, high-maintenance woman into the small town world of a local fisherman. Here, she finds her heart more attached than she anticipates and questions some of her superficial ways. Both main characters are stubborn and headstrong, like Taureans.
Geminis are sassy multitaskers. Jill Loftis, astrologer and founder of Nuit Astrology, says they have short attention spans. As social butterflies who love to talk to anyone, she says "books with information they can share with others are ideal" Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen's The Golden Couple is a quick, tense story about a mysterious therapist and a seemingly perfect married couple. Geminis will want to share their plot theories at their next dinner party as more secrets are revealed in the page-turner.
Cancers are a nurturing sign associated with home, so they are drawn to family-focused books. Elyssa Friedland's Last Summer at the Golden Hotel is a light contemporary novel about two families trying to save their hotel amid societal changes. "Cancer patients are sensitive," says Newman, so this beach read is perfect for them.
Leos have strong personalities. According to Newman, this fire sign likes dystopian novels with lots of flames because they offer drama and suspense. The Power by Naomi Alderman flips the script from The Handmaid's Tale. Like Leo, this book is bold with mysterious elements and "will make people rethink reality," says Newman. This book is unique, like your Leos.
Virgos are laid-back but value truth. This "grounded, analytical sign" will enjoy a book that combines everyday life and self-improvement with humour. "People born under this sign aren't as serious as others, so humour can help," says Newman. Virgos will devour Tina Fey's memoir Bossypants, which offers advice and laughs.
Libras may be hopeless romantics at heart. "Love and romance with a hint of sophistication, rules, and balance" This air sign likes elegant historical fiction. Since they're indecisive, a nine-book series with over 600 pages will keep them busy for a while. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, the first in the same-named series, is a time-traveling love story for the ages.
